I don’t know if you have ever seen a green monster, but I have! That’s what the induction center at Lackland Air Force Base was called when I first went through. Green uniforms were passed out to each, sizes based on what the person behind the counter calculated. Imagine that. From a clothing perspective, we were fully equipped, against cold and rain, nothing lacking. Ready to move out for the next phase of being equipped with knowledge and skill sets.
But how do we become equipped for life; against all of the things that pop up and shoot at us through the years? How do we learn? Is there a way beside the hard way, slugging against each encounter and then “picking ourselves back up?” Again, “tossed by every wave?”
As you might expect, God has His way of equipping us to “grow up,” and without a green monster. His solution begins with, “in Christ,” introducing us as new recruits to Jesus through His holy writings and His people. Young and old, rich or poor, Jew or gentile, Jesus is His only way, beyond an induction, to a holy adoption, a relationship God establishes with us by simple faith, which interestingly, He also gives us! The first piece of being equipped — trusting and believing Him, in Christ, and a pattern forward, even unto eternity.
“Now may the God of peace, Who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus with the blood of the everlasting covenant, equip you! with all that is good — to do His will, working in us what is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ. Glory belongs to Him forever and ever. Amen.”
Equipped. Purposed. Don’t worry about tomorrow. Just keep walking with Him, even as He walked; learning His ways in His power, patiently yet purposefully growing up, pleasing Him, now as
